Who is the North Carolina State Defense Force (NCSDF / SDFNC)?

Someone like you. In times of trouble, North Carolina needs all of us working together. Whether you excel in logistics, technology, business, law enforcement, or any other field, we have a place for you. No North Carolinian willing to contribute their time and skills should be left out.

What is the NCSDF about?

We serve as a first and last line of defense for North Carolina. In natural or man-made disasters, we act as a force multiplier for the North Carolina Emergency Management system, National Guard, and Air National Guard. As good neighbors, we help keep our state strong and ready—contributing to a stronger America.

What are the qualifications to join?

Any North Carolina citizen who treats others with respect and wants to contribute their skills to serve the state. If you have a strong sense of community, you belong here. We need an ‘all hands on deck’ approach to remain self-sustaining.

How can I apply to join?

Why do North Carolinians need a State Defense Force?

North Carolina has a proud history of defending our state and communities since the Revolutionary War. While the National Guard may deploy federally, a State Defense Force ensures trained North Carolinians are always ready to respond to hurricanes, wildfires, search-and-rescue operations, or other emergencies. It embodies the timeless principle of neighbors helping neighbors.

How does NCSDF work?

We build strong partnerships with the North Carolina Department of Public Safety and other volunteer organizations, nonprofits, and businesses. Together, we prepare for disasters through prevention, protection, mitigation, response, and recovery. Teamwork makes the dream work.
